そもそもは数学の本なのだが、プログラミングの本の参考文献として載
っていたのが読むきっかけ。アメリカで出版されているプログラミング
関連本では、必ずといっていいほどこの本が推奨されているといってよ
い。なんでもマイクロソフトでは新入社員はこの本を必ず読むことにな
っているらしい。
数学問題の解き方を書いた本というよりは、ヒューリスティックな方法
論に基づいた、よりひろく問題解決法について論じた本といってよい。
私にとっては、この本は受験生ではなくプログラマーに薦める。

この本は数学の問題を解く枠組を説明した名著として知られていますが、その枠組は基本的であるだけに普遍的であり、昨今の「問題解決」「意思決定」「クリティカル・シンキング」関連の有象無象のビジネス本の類に辟易している方にも是非お勧めしたい一冊です。廉価であることもありコスト・パフォーマンスは保証します。

名著。
今まで何故この本を読んでいなかったのか、悔やまれてならない。

高校一年程度の数学の知識で十分に対応できる水準。数学の問題をどう解くか？という問題に直面している受験生はある程度知識が貯まったら目を通すとよい。問題を理解する、計画を立てる、計画を実行する、振り返る。本書見返りにあるチャートは一見凡庸に見えるが、一般的にどう問題を解くか、についてパースペクティブを与えてくれるような本はそうそうないはず。

何より読むべきは社会科学系の人間で、数学を必要とする人だろう。この分野では数学の「結果」に関して、網羅的に扱っている本を通じ学習する機会が多い。そのためか、例えば証明の戦略に関して意識的に書かれたものに出会う機会が少なくなる。実のところ数学をどう「使うか」、という段で必要な知識はこの本で述べられているような事だったりするのだ。

地味な版元から出てる本だが、見逃せない一冊である。
