家族をテーマに作品を発表し続ける重松氏の根底に流れるものがよ〜くわかるエッセイでした。世代的にも同年代なので、より身近に感じたと思います。
いつかテレビで重松氏を拝見したとき、「週のほとんどを仕事場ですごし、家にはほとんど帰れない」というようなお話をされていたので、それで家族が書けるのかぁ〜？と思っていた私です。でも一緒にいる時間の長さで家族の絆は測れないのですね。重松氏の教育に関するポリシーは、悔しいけれどいちいち説得されてしまいました。
食べるためにルポライターとして膨大な仕事をこなされてきたからこそ、今の重松氏がある。そして、今もルポライターであり続ける彼の仕事に、心から敬服したくなる、そんな本でした。

　家族をテーマに執筆を続ける著者が、自らの少年期、青春期、不惑、親子の絆などを語るエッセイ集。小説同様に文章から温かさの伝わるエッセイでもあり、懐かしさもあり、つい頷いてしまったりと、小説以上に重松清の人間味が伝わってくるエッセイです。

この作品の中には作家としての重松清さんはいない。一人の
人間としての重松清さんがいる。何気ない日常の一コマを
切り取ったもの、家族のこと、そして自分自身の幼い日の
思い出、今の世の中で起こっている悲しい出来事などを、
独特の視点で描いている。どの話にも作者の温かな思いが
感じられる。「ここに、感動的な作品が生まれる原点がある！」
読みながらそう感じた。人間味にあふれた重松さん。彼の存在が
より身近に感じられる作品だった。
