5.0 out of 5 stars 暖かく、優しく、ちょっと寂しい「匂い」, 2000/11/7
女性ばかりを狙った猟期連続殺人事件-目を背けたくなるような酷い手口。と書くと流行のスカーペッタシリーズやレクター教授ものを思い浮かべるかもしれない。「オルファクトグラム」は、そこで起きる事件は両シリーズに劣らないくらい残酷で悲惨だが、いわゆる「猟期モノ」とは違う。この本から一貫して漂うのは暖かく、優しい、そして、少し寂しい「匂い」だ。

主人公は大好きな姉を狡猾な殺人者に殺されてしまう青年。愛する肉親を殺された彼は犯人を警察には出来ない方法で独自に追いつめていく。殺人者によってもたらされた彼の「鼻」の特殊機能-訓練された警察犬以上の嗅覚-を使って。

この本に描かれる「匂い」のイメージは美しい。身の回りの「匂い」がオレンジや赤や青の光る透明の結晶となって読む者を圧倒する。本の中ではそのイメージをＣＧで再現する試みが描かれているが、もしそんなソフトが本当にあったら絶対欲しい。「匂い」のイメージをここまで美しく視覚化したのは井上さんが文学史上初めてではないだろうか。

この特殊な設定に加えて、犯人を追いつめていく緊張感と危機の連続、頁を繰る間ももどかしいようなスピード感で５００頁を越える長編なのにあっという間にラストにたどり着いてしまう。（アア、ナンテ、モッタイナイ！） そして迎えるエピローグは．．．ご自分の「目」でその「匂い」を確かめてください。

週刊誌に連載されていた頃にぽつぽつと読んでいた。
この作家のほかの作品をあいにく知らない。この小説がどんな風に分類されるのか、興味もないが、作家はよくぞ嗅覚や脳のことをここまで研究したものだと感心してしまう。そして、人間そのものの身体の機能のすばらしさ、また心のやさしい人間がまだまだいること・・・架空の物語なのだけれど、けっこう「人間ってまだまだ捨てたモンじゃない」と言う気にさせてくれた一冊だった。
もちろん、殺人犯は別だけど・・・・。

あらすじだけでは意味不明〜!でも読み始めると画が浮かんでくると言うか…想像力が刺激される!!
ストーリーもイイ。
