『終わらない夜』に続いて、セーラ・L. トムソン とロブ・ゴンザルヴェスのコンビが
あなたを騙し絵の世界へと誘う第二弾。
前作にも増して夢と現実の境界はぼやけ、
曖昧な足場となりながらも見るひとのこころを奪います。
目を開いたまま見られる夢の世界へ、ひと足踏み出せばよいだけです。
空でも海でも湖でも、はたまた本の中へでも。

ひとつだけ難をいえば、ゴンザルヴェスの作品が
前作では最後にまとめてタイトルとともに表示されていたのに、
今回はそれがないこと。
それとも・・・タイトルはわたしたちが想像しましょうか。
"Imagine."
そう、言われているのですから。

美しさと不気味さのはざまにあるような、奇妙な本。
こういうテイストは嫌いではないのだが、好き嫌いは別れそう。
手放しで好きと言えないような何かが…。

出てくる人間が、人間味がないあたりが…ちょっと怖い。
表紙になっている「砂の城」と
「木のブランコ」のページはわりと好きなのだが。

各ページの物語を考えつつ、眺めてお楽しみください。

ネガとポジの反転、矛盾する遠近法、平面と立体の交錯などなど。
騙し絵の手法を駆使しつつも、リアルな描写によって、ありえない現実へと
導いてくれる絵本「終わらない夜」は今でも強烈な印象が残っている。

その第二弾とくれば、もう迷わず手に取るしかないですね。

騙し絵と聞いて、まずエッシャーを思い浮かべる方も多いと思います。
モノクロを主体としたエッシャーは、パズルのような知的描写が特徴的。
それに対し、色鮮やかなロブ・ゴンサルヴェス場合は、絵の中に
人間が多く登場することもあって感情移入しやすく、物語的と言えるでしょう。

描かれた人間の表情は、何かにとり憑かれたように虚ろだ。

異次元の迷宮を永遠にさまよう彼らの姿は、我々現代人の心の不安を
投影しているかのようでもある。
