騙し絵のような面白さがあります。
つい、隅から隅まで、舐めるように見てしまいます。
ゴンザルヴェスの絵に添えられたトムソンの詩が、
ますます見る者を夢幻の世界へと誘います。

個人的には「心のなかの森」や「白い毛布」がとても好きです。
うつくしいけれど、ちょっと怖い・・・
けれど、そこに足を踏み入れずにはいられない・・・。

そんな、絵本、です。

とにかく絵がいい。
これは芸術であり、画集だと思ってください。
もちろん文章もよいのですが。
子供がこういった芸術に触れるのはもちろんよいが、読み聞かせという代物ではなく、
どちらかというと、コレクター向きのものです。
しかし、子供は子どもの楽しみ方を持っていて、
この本を広げては、ここから変化してるんだよね〜とか、
あ、この人こうなってたんだ〜とか新しい発見を
本を開くたびに見つけて楽しんでいるようです。

タイトルの”終わらない夜”ってのも十分に怖いんですが、人物が一概に生気のない顔をしていて、しかも夜をテーマにした絵が多いので余計に怖い。
うわぁ！っていう怖さじゃなくて、じわじわ来る、そんな怖さ。
