『いばらひめ』『眠りの森の姫』いろいろな名前を持ち、童話の代表作のひとつともいえるこの作品。幼い頃から何度も読み、聞いたこの話を大人になってあらためてこんなに素敵で幻想的だと思えたのはエロール・ル・カインの挿絵のおかげ。この作品を手にして以来、彼の大ファンです。

おなじみのグリム童話ですが、エロール・ル・カイン著の挿絵がすばらしい！
とびらのページに、らせん階段をのぼって、魔女のいる小部屋に入ろうとするお姫様の絵。大人も、子どもの頃夢中になったおとぎの世界に迷い込んでしまいそうです。まさにこの絵本の中に、ゆったりとした秋の日の午後が封じ込められているのです。何度ページを開いても飽きることがありません。

エロール・ル・カインの作品は全部好きだけど、その中でも私が一番好きなのはやっぱり『いばら姫』かな・・・。
特に王子様がいばらにおおわれたお城の扉の前に立つ場面が一番好き。
他のページと違って全体が緑色で美しく統一され、野バラが咲き乱れた様子を、それはもう繊細なタッチで描いています。
カインの絵は、すごく繊細なのに、構図が大胆で動きがあるので、迫力を感じます。
この宝石のような絵本をぜひ手にとって見て下さい。
