クリスマスと言えばキリスト教徒にとって一年で最も大切な日。
その神聖な日の前夜、家中が静まりかえっている。
そこで、眠れない子供たちはこっそり階下へ・・・。
両親に気付かれないように息を止めて階段を下りる
子供たちの胸の鼓動が聞こえてきそうだ。

日本ではお馴染みの赤や緑や金色は一切使われていない。
オレンジ色をベースに淡々と描かれたイラストが、
静かでおごそかな夜を一層引き立てているように思える。
♪Silent Night♪の歌声が本当に聞こえてきそうだ。

聖なるクリスマス・イブの夜。静かな時間と空気が流れる中、その雰囲気とはうらはらに、ベットの中で胸をはずませ眠れぬ夜を過ごしている子供たちがいます。静かに静かに･･･その夜、子供たちの冒険が始まりました。
心躍らせる子供たちがいても、聖なる時間はやはり静かに流れていて･･･。
１２月の夜、クリスマス・イブを待ちながら静かな満ちたりた気持ちで読みたい、とても美しい絵本。
