[ヒト型ロボット・ジャックは、人間同様の食欲を感じることに辛さを覚えていた。
王女誘拐犯を追うジャックは、密林の中でルビィという少女に出会う。
昼は可憐な少女、夜は美女へと変身し誘惑してくるルビィに戸惑うジャック・・・。
彼女は食事を神聖な儀式として人肉を食するフォトリス人であった。

表題作「22XX」を始め、「世紀末に愛されて」「夢のつづき」「8月の長い夜」「ロボット考<擬態>」を収録した異色＆衝撃のヒューマンSF傑作選。
少女マンガだけどSFマンガとしても出来の良い作品だと思います。
特に「22XX」はカニバリズムをテーマにした珍しい作品です。

この物語で取り上げられる「愛する者が死んだらその肉を食べる」という習慣。
どこか、未開の地で暮らす民族が今でも行っているものだといわれてもさして驚くことがないほど説得力がある。

自分が死んだら、きっとそのまま火葬されて灰になってしまうのだろうけど
この作品を読んで、ただ灰になってしまうことのさみしさを感じます。

まさか自分が死んだら食べてくれなどとはとても人に頼めないけれど、何か他の命にとりこまれたいと思う気持ちにひどく共感しました。
朽ちて倒れた木が土にかえって土壌を潤し生命を育むように、自分の命が他の命を生かす糧になると思うと、誇らしいというと少し違うけれど、満足できるというか安心できるような気がします。
どんな人生だったとしても、ただ生きて、ただ死んだ。それだけではない、という風に思えるような。

最後には食欲を排除したジャックが、今になってどうしても食べたかったもの。という締めくくりもすごく良かった。
ジャックのシリーズでも特に好きな作品です。

「食べる」ということは、他の生命を犠牲にしている。

わかっているつもりでも、こんなふうに描かれたものを読むと、

なかなかシビアです。

人肉を食べるということが、生命を繋ぐということで、

食べてもらえないのは、一番つらい死に方である。

究極の愛は、食べてもらうこと・・・

うまく言葉にならないなぁ。

ロボットは、死とも食とも縁がなくて。

人間は、必ず死ぬし、

そして、何かを食べなければ死ぬ。

過食とかいっている、自分が嫌いになっちゃって、つらいな。。。
