大島弓子作品には、合う人と合わない人なるものがあるらしいのです。そして私はどちらかで言えば「合う」方です。
けれど、自分の生きている世界が窮屈に思えたり、息ができないと感じたり、目に見えないけれど何かに圧迫されているような、そんな息苦しさを感じたりしている人は少なくないと思うのです。
そして、それをどうにかして吐き出して（人によって消音枕だったり、秘密の場所だったり、日記だったり、カラオケだったり、風呂場で泣くことだったり）、日々生きている人に、この本はうってつけだとおもいます。
ラストまで読み終わった時に、目の前がキラキラしているように感じますよ。少なくとも私は、あー自由なんだ、と思って、世界をいとおしく感じられるようになりました。その事をすぐ忘れちゃうんですけどね。そしたらまた読むのです。

大島先生は、７０年代から今まで、ずっと現役である。
彼女のピークがいつだったか、などと考えるのは野暮というものだ−この文庫本を前にしては。
９０年代の諸作品がおさまっている。特に素晴らしいのは表題作「ロスト・ハウス」。
いつもの、７０年代「バナナブレットのプディング」の彼女、８０年代「綿の国星」の大島先生の漫画が、ここにある。
コンテンポラリーである。お世辞抜きで。まったくダサくないし、けど無理している感じもない。
「２４年組」の漫画家さんたちがキラキラ光っていたころの大島漫画から、彼女はまったく衰えていない。この「ロスト〜」の力は２００８年の今だって光っている。「F式蘭丸」にだって匹敵するといっていい。
表題作以外にも佳作ぞろい。彼女のまなざしは９０年代でも健在だったようだ。７０年代、８０年代の（素晴らしいことには変わりないが）大島漫画しか知らない方はぜひ手にとって欲しい。
９０年代であっても、大島先生はリアリズムを失っていないことが、この文庫からはっきりわかる。デビューしてから今まで、大島先生の本質は常に「現代」であった。

文庫本サイズでマンガとくれば通勤電車で読むのに最適だと思った。
でもそれが間違いだと気がついた。
２Pのあとがき漫画を含めた７作はけっして長編ではないと言うのに
１回読んだ位では内容を把握しきれないのだ。
現実では起こり得ない内容のせいなのかも知れない。
何度か読み返しても飽きないのが不思議だが、読み返す事で新しい発見もある。

つくづく不思議な漫画家だと思う。大島弓子って。
