実は「グーグーだって猫である」を先に読み、
もっと読みたくなって購入しました。
グーグーの先代猫「サバ」との共同生活の話です。
「グーグー」とくらべると、表現がより独創的で深い気がします。
そのためか最初は少しなじみませんでしたが、
読んでいるうちにどんどんはまってしまいました。
ノミにまで及ぶいろいろな生き物への深い愛情や、作者の大島さんの
何気ない日常生活への愛しさみたいなものが感じられます。
読んだあとは少しこころが豊かになれる気がします。

漫画家の大島弓子さんと愛猫サバとの日々を描いた漫画エッセイ。

この本の中では出てくる動物全てが擬人化されているのですが、あまり違和感を感じないで読めました。たぶん人間の都合よく擬人化されているわけではないからではないでしょうか？猫とは対等に暮らしていて、同居人という感じです。サバは猫以上のことはしない、他のカラスや渡り鳥や野良猫たちもその動物のする行動以上のことはしない、多分こう言っているのでは？という大島さんの解釈のもとちょっとは言葉はしゃべるけど。人間のかっこうをしていてもやっぱり猫だ。動物を飼っていると、ある程度会話のようなものができるようになってくる（頭のおかしい人じゃありませんよ）動物の気持ちもわかってくるし、動物の方もこっちの気持ちをかなりわかってくれてるなと感じるようになる。そういう事がペットと暮らすことの喜びであり、この本を読むとそのことが自然と伝わってきました。ただ淡々と猫との生活を描いていて、よく猫のことも観察しているなあ。なんだかサバとはあったことがないのに顔見知りの猫みたい。続きの「サバの夏が来た」もおすすめです。

大島さんの漫画エッセイに「グーグーだって猫である」というのがある、こっちはサバの後に来たグーグーとビーという猫たちが出てくるのだが、彼らは擬人化されていない。サバは大島さんが初めてちゃんと飼った猫なのだそうだけど、やっぱり特別な思い入れがあったんでしょうね。

サバという名のネコと著者のおはなし。この本ではネコを擬人化しているので、特に動物が好きではないという人でもすんなり入れそうです。飼い猫自慢でもなく、日々の何気ない行動が、愛情と常識を込めて描かれています。何度も読めるし結構“癒し系”の部類に入るかも。読んでみると分かりますが、著者にはお笑いのセンスもあるようです。
