人との摩擦に疲れた時、多忙な日々に疲れた時、等々、
自分のペースを失った時についこの本を手に取ってしまいます。
爆笑まではいかなくとも、ブフッと吹きだしてしまったり、
ニヤリとしたりするだけで何故かニュートラルになれるんです。
やはりこのマンガが持つ独特のテンポのおかげなんでしょうね。

主人公の落ち着きっぷりと柔和で丁寧な言葉遣いは
アノ無表情(!!)さをも温かさとして感じさせるから不思議です。
その雰囲気がこっちに伝染して
つまらないことでイライラする自分があほらしく思えちゃったり…。
癒されます。

記念すべき「動物のお医者さん」第一巻です。

主人公ハムテル（公輝：まさき）と愛犬チョビの出会い。ついでに漆原教授との出会い。そしてハムテルと友達の二階堂君は獣医を目指す！

「ブタの御齧り」と不思議お姉さん菱沼さんの登場。
獣医学科恒例のなぜか春の大運動会、そして恐怖の組織学試験。

「花とゆめ」連載当時、私は女子高の三年生で、理科系受験クラスにいましたが、「H大の理IIIに合格して獣医になりたい~！」という娘はクラスの半分くらいいて、本当に受験しに行ったのが１０人位いました（クラスは４５人）。

日本中にそう考える受験生はたくさんいましたから、そして、H大の理IIIは一瞬のうちに偏差値が５以上上がり、超難関校になってしまいました。（マジほんとの話）

H大獣医学部が舞台の動物＆学生コメディ。舞台は北海道ですが、全国各地の農学、生物系の大学の「ネタ提供者」の協力の下、さまざまなドラマが繰り広げられる。とくに生物系の超有名教授が部分的なモデルになっているので、じっくり読み込んで元ネタになった先生方を想像するのも楽しい。
この本のおかげで、獣医学部は大人気でいきなり受験倍率が上がったり、ハスキーが高温多湿の日本各地で大ブームになったりと、社会現象まで引き起こした、凄いシリーズ。近年、ドラマ化もされました。
