数ある新選組モノの中にも、いきなり箱館戦争を取り上げる漫画はなかなかありません。
けれど新選組と土方さんを愛する多くのファンなら、きっとこの時期の彼らをじっくり追いかけてみたいはず！
そんな読者の想いと作者の想いが、がしっとリンクする短編集です。

三篇の収録作のうち「碧に還る」は野村利三郎のお話。
新選組局長・近藤勇に最後まで従い、箱館に転戦して土方歳三のもとで果敢に戦って命を落とした利三郎の憧憬と、それに真っ直ぐ向かって生きた姿が爽快に描かれています。

「散る緋」は最後の新選組隊長・相馬主計のお話。
野村利三郎と共に近藤勇の最期に深く関わり、同じく箱館に転戦し土方の下に戦いその死を乗り越えた彼が、維新後も新選組隊士としての誠を貫いた上で、新選組の名に殉じた姿は、壮絶な切なさを感じさせます。

「殉白」は、土方歳三主役で、伝習隊隊長にして箱館新政府の陸軍奉行をつとめた大鳥圭介とのからみが描かれた作品。
鬼副長と恐れられた土方さんの根っこの部分の繊細さや優しさが、大鳥圭介の視点から箱館戦時下の立居振舞いを通して、泣けるくらい美しく表現されているのが印象的でした。

雑誌掲載分はすべて収録されていないので、まだまだ商業誌で描かれていない新選組像を見せてほしいと思わせる一冊です。

表紙の絵柄を見てわかるように、女性と見間違うような美しい土方歳三を中心に、宮古海戦、函館戦争の新選組を描いた短編集です。

京都以降の新選組（のみ）を取り上げた作品というだけでも珍しいのに、
少女マンガでありながら女性がほとんど登場せず、BLでもなく、
史実を中心に（勿論そうでない部分もありますが）描かれたこの作品は、筆者の土方歳三への並々ならぬ想いを感じます。

また、落日の新選組にスポットを当てているだけに、泣きのポイントも多々あります。
（特にわたしは相馬主計が自害するところがツボでした）

筆者の熱い想いからか、多少美化しすぎとも言えなくはありませんが、
新選組ファン、特に史実を重視するファンの方には一番オススメしたい新選組マンガです。

新選組といえば、池田屋事件をはじめとする京都での活躍が有名です。
しかし、彼らの魅力はそれだけじゃない。
あまり知られていなけれど、こんな魅力的な人たちがいたんだよ！と、この作品は訴えています。

内容は鳥羽伏見~函館戦争までを、野村利三郎・相馬主計・土方歳三の３人の視点で追っていくもの。
史実をすごくよく調べていて、それを上手くまとめてらっしゃいます。
創作は抑えながらも、ストーリーは抜群だと思います。
絵も綺麗な上に迫力があって、戦闘シーンなどは少女漫画らしからぬ雰囲気です（笑）

土方さんが少し女性的な気がします。
『燃えよ剣』などの喧嘩師のイメージが強い方は、少し戸惑うかもしれません。
しかし読んで損はない作品だと思います。
何より野村・相馬好きな私にはたまらないです（笑）
名前の公開されていない隊士達も、よく読むと誰が誰だか見当がついて面白いですよ！
