この物語中の教派の最高権威である枢機卿の前に姿を現したグリフィス。枢機卿はこの出会いを天啓と信じる。
シャルロットと云う王族嫡子、次期国王の血統を手に入れ、教派からの権威を手に入れようとするグリフィス。

ガニシュカ大帝率いるクシャーンを駆逐すればクシャーンの進行に怯える領民や教徒から絶大なる信頼と尊敬を集め、
「光の鷹」の降臨を信じるミッドランド諸侯もグリフィスを王の中の王と崇める。

だが、ガニシュカも「闇の翼」フェムトも同じ「人外の者」なのである
クシャーンの進行もグリフィスからすれば自分の国を手に入れる為の布石でしかないのか？それとも因果の流れなのか。

しかし、ガッツからすればグリフィスは許されざる仇敵である。
このままグリフィスの思うがままに事が運べば、ガッツは教圏の全ての人を敵に回し、戦っていかねばならない。

鍵を握るのは、今巻でやっと己の居場所を見つけたファルネーゼの帰属する大ヴァンディミオン家か？

この漫画に関しての秀逸さを挙げれば、静の章も動の章も、全ては布石、伏線が張られている事である。
良く練り込まれているストーリー、途方も無く細かく書き込まれている描写。

すべてが面白い。あえて難を挙げれば新巻発売までが長すぎる。もうちょっとペース上げて下さい。

鎮守府ヴリタリスに集結した対クシャーン連合軍。出陣前、貴族や将軍、貴婦人が集った舞踏会をクシャーンの妖魔が襲撃した・・。

本シリーズについては、ともすればストーリー展開の遅さを指摘する意見もあるが、スピード云々は、ここまで来ると、もはや指摘するのは野暮というものだ。これが、ベルセルクなのだ、と身を委ねたほうが楽しめる。
むしろその緻密な描写、例えば舞踏会に集まった貴族、将軍、貴婦人の個性豊かな装束、教皇とその取り巻きの描写、はたまたヴリタリスを襲撃したゴブリン兵が手にしている奇妙な武器・装具などひとつひとつの手を抜いていない絵を楽しんだほうがいい。
緊迫の展開に、続きが読みたくてジリジリとする気分を味わうのは確かだが、期待を込めて、半年先の続刊を待とう・・・。

15年前からヤングアニマルで連載されているこの作品。アニマルは面白い漫画（セスタス、エアマスター、ホーリーランドなど）が多くその中でもこの漫画はずば抜けて面白い。過去編の鷹の団ではガッツの出生の秘密や仲間たちとの友情そして残酷な蝕・・・。特にガッツの感情がむき出しになるシーンなどは見ていて鬼気迫る感じで読者も高揚感を感じる。その後は使途を狩りつつ仲間が増えていきキャスカの記憶を取り戻すため妖精郷へ・・・。そして今回の巻は前巻にバトルシーンが皆無だったためか戦闘描写が長く満足できた。
ただこの頃は魔法が出てきたりガッツの性格が丸くなり感情をむき出すことがなくなったりと少し低迷感があるように思う。それに刊行ペースが遅いためにしていなくても中だるみをしてるように思えてしまう。ただこのクオリティを維持したり上位の使途や髑髏の騎士、ガッツの狂戦士の鎧のデザイン等のセンスもずば抜けていると思う。
ガッツVSゾッドなどの大迫力のバトルをもう少し増やしてほしいとは思いますがね・・・
