この物語は、周囲を含めた自己との葛藤がテーマなのだと思う。もちろん都合の良い展開もあるのは、どういった作品であれ逃れられないところだが、展開が遅いといっていらだつのは、作品に対する真摯な丁寧さ（情熱と言い換えてもいい）を抱いている作者にやや不親切ではないだろうか（期待の裏返しかもしれないが）。
ガッツの内面は、自己中心野郎から脱皮して、徐々に大人の男にふさわしい貫禄、強さを帯びてきたものの、狂戦士の鎧は、ガッツの成長の跡など微塵も感じさせないほど危険極まりない。だが、ガッツはキャスカを殺しかけた時といい、常に外部の敵のみならず、内なる敵とのせめぎあいを繰り返してきた。この鎧を身につけたから、急に始まったことではない。しかし、味方全員さえ殺しかねないという、より危険性が増してきた以上、さらなる心の強靭さを必要とされている。下手な外の敵よりも、己の内なる敵のほうがはるかにやっかいだという古めかしくも、誰にとっても重いテーマを十分に描き尽くす筆者に、私は絶えず拍手を送っている。

今回もマンガというより劇画の域です。表現のレベルは高いです。この年齢にして、継続的に読んでいる唯一のマンガになっています。これまで並行して進んでいたグリフィスとガッツの話しが、少しづつ近づいていきます。ただ、余談的の部分が増えてきましたね。グリフィスと戦わせてしまうと、話しが終わってしまうので、紆余曲折を表現せざるを得ないのだろうと思います。この調子でいくと、完結まで何年かかるのか・・・。もはやこれは火の鳥と同様、著者のライフワークになっているように思います。あと１０年ぐらい付き合う覚悟で読んでいます。

　かつて１人で夜の道を歩いていたガッツは、今ようやく、昔の自分と同じように夜を彷徨っているであろう我が子を想う。でもその子はいない。グリフィスの肉になってしまったから。つくづくひどい話だと思う。父親らしい面を見せたとき、もうその子はいないなんて…。狂戦士の鎧に憑かれたガッツを、ひょっこり現れた黒髪の男の子が救うのだけど、もしかしてこの子は…？　謎。

　ごった返す雑踏。集まる戦士たちと、傭兵を募る呼び声…。辿り着いたヴリタニスはひどく懐かしいかんじ。久しくなかった一番『ベルセルク』らしい(？)雰囲気で血が騒いでしまったよ。

　あまり話は進んでないが、新キャラを大事に描いているからで、そこは好感持てます。でも出来れば早く進んで欲しい。
