23巻は姫川亜弓が主演する「ふたりの王女」のもうひとりの王女役を決める
オーディションにマヤが挑戦する巻です。
まったく先の読めない展開と、マヤが他の参加者に圧倒的な才能の差を
見せつけるところが、読んでいてものすごく快感で、既刊41巻の中で最も
好きな巻です。

ところで、この作品、物語もいよいよ大詰めですが、肝心の雑誌の連載は休載状態。
コミックスも1998年に41巻が出たきり、もう５年も新刊が出ていません。
コミックスは後の巻に行くに従って改稿部分が増えていき、雑誌掲載当時の
内容からどんどん離れていっています。美内先生もこのあとの展開に
苦慮されているのだろうと思いますが、何年かかってもぜひ完結してほしい
ものです。

思えば「花とゆめ」でこの作品の連載が始まったのは私が高校生の時でした（ああ、トシがばれる(^^;)）。
今では中学生と小学生の我が子たちが夢中になって読みふけっています。
ヘタすれば孫の代までかかるかもしれませんが（笑）、私も最後まで
見届けたいと思っています。

　このガラスの仮面をみている読者の中にはオーディションの場面が最高に面白いという人がたくさんいます。主人公のマヤは水を得た魚のように天才ぶりを発揮し、他のオーディション参加者を全く寄せ付けない圧勝という今までにない設定でした（これまでこのマンガでのオーディションはマヤの失敗場面が多くありました）。一人芝居の場面は演劇（特にパントマイム）に関する深い造詣がないと書けないので作者の美内さんの努力に頭が下がる気がします。以前のヨーロッパでの取材が生きています。
　とても面白く読み進めます。
