江戸川 乱歩
1894年生まれ。本名は平井太郎。1923年『二銭銅貨』でデビュー。探偵小説の第一人者として『屋根裏の散歩者』『陰獣』『蜘蛛男』などの代表作を次々と発表。1936年、初の少年向け読み物『怪人二十面相』が評判を呼び、明智小五郎と少年探偵団が活躍する「少年探偵」シリーズとして現在も読み継がれている。1965年没(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)

この少年探偵団シリーズ文庫版６冊は、映画『K-20 怪人二十面相・伝』の公開に合わせて発売されたものだが、本作には二十面相は登場しない。
それでもラインナップに加えざるを得ないほどの、古典的名作である。
本作では、江戸川乱歩の最高傑作のひとつ『孤島の鬼』の後半部分を独立させ、ジュブナイルとしてアレンジしたようなストーリーが展開する。
『孤島の鬼』に登場する、字足らずな感じの奇妙な暗号文は、あの中間部の手記をふまえて読むからこそ、かえって不気味な雰囲気を醸し出していた。
いっぽう、この『大金塊』では、それこそ子どもでもわかるような、ストレートでかつ詩的な暗号が登場し、読む者の記憶に長く残ることとなる。
そしてクライマックスにおいては、『孤島の鬼』での激情は、少年同士の美しき友情に置き換えられる。
少年探偵団シリーズ中の、一、二を争う大傑作だと思う。

たまりませんなー。
導入部からよどみなく、実に魅力的に物語が展開される。
小学生からこんな面白い本読んでたら、
大人になっても推理小説や冒険小説が好きなはずだと再認識。
驚いたことに、あの暗号文、３６年経ってもほとんど覚えてました。

子どもいわく、少年探偵シリーズ一番の傑作だそうです。
私は、このシリーズでは、もう発行されていない
「白い羽の謎」が一番好きでした。
あとは、「魔術師」ですね。
たしか、この「魔術師」は、このシリーズの別の本と同じ文章が１００ページ以上もあることを小学生が発見して、当時は新聞にも大きくとり扱われたのですが、覚えている人はいるかなぁ。


この江戸川乱歩のシリーズは、親子で楽しめるすばらしいシリーズですね。

懐かしさもあって、文庫化されたこのシリーズを読み始めて、これが4冊目。今回は、明智小五郎のライバル、怪人二十面相は登場せず、ちょっと物足りない。

やはり少年向きということもあり、内容は薄いが、ノスタルジックな気分に浸れる。小学校の図書室で読み漁っていたころを思い出す。
