子どものころに読んだ童話がこんな素晴らしい物語になって戻ってきてくれました。
もうこのお話ぜんぶが大好き。文章の響きも、筋運びも、登場人物の描かれ方も、すべてがパーフェクトに近い！
私の中の五つ星！あげてもあげ足りないぐらいです。

母親の思いが切ない話でした… 愛しい娘だったのに。
どこをどう間違ってこんなふうになってしまったんでしょうか。

もともとの童話では描かれていないことがより鮮明に、納得できるように書かれています。
娘が欲しかった女の気持ち・・・。
どうして母親が愛する娘を塔に閉じ込めたのか、閉じ込めずにはいられなかったのか・・・

グリムが描いた童話の世界を、作者ナポリは、より現実世界に寄り添った極上の物語に生まれ変わらせたのです。

めくるめく想像の世界・・・作者の想像力に乾杯！です。

もはやこれはパロディなどという二次的なものではなく、ドナ・ジョー・ナポリの描いた創作物語と言っても過言はないのでは。
もちろん基本的筋書きはグリムに寄ってはいるけれど。パロディだけれども、それだけではない。
よりくっきりと肉付けされ、より現実の重みを持っている。

読者は作者ナポリの筆致に酔うばかり･･･　たとえ筋書きや結末を知っていたとしても、そのことに何の意味もない。

新たな感動の波に包まれるだけなのです。

童話を下地に書かれた物語。
母としてか、ただ一人の孤独な女としてか、娘を愛すばかりに、孤独を恐れるばかりに、塔に娘を閉じ込めてしまう。
おとぎ話のように王子が悪い魔女から姫を救ったからハッピーエンドではなく、そこには会話と葛藤があることにより人間臭さが出てくる。結局、この世の善と悪の違いとは何か…。

ファンタジーな所も残しつつ、楽しませてくれる大人のための童話です。
