西川 美和
1974年、広島県生まれ。早稲田大学第一文学部卒。在学中より日本映画の現場に助監督として参加し、是枝裕和監督等の作品に携わる。02年、『蛇イチゴ』でオリジナル脚本・監督デビューを果たす。06年に公開された長編第2作目『ゆれる』は、第61回毎日映画コンクール(日本映画大賞)、第58回読売文学賞(戯曲・シナリオ賞)をはじめ数々の賞を受賞するなど、映画史に永く刻まれる傑作として、高い評価を得ている(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)

映画に心打たれて、小説版にも手を出してみた。

しかし映画版とはかなり印象が違って、残念だった。
いちばん残念だったのは、章ごとに各人が独白するというスタイルをとったために、登場人物が饒舌にならざるをえなくなった点である。父や兄は、あんなに言葉を重ねて語る人物なのだろうか。
また、千恵子の性格を、過去の体験で語ろうとするところは浅薄な印象を受けた。
そして、香川照之によるその後の独白もちょっと・・・。

映画のほうをぜひお勧めしたい。

映画「ゆれる」の小説版。
映画は間違いなく、傑作。是非多くの方に見てもらいたい作品です。
個人的には映画を見てから小説を見るのをお勧めいたします。

映画では猛視点で物語が進んでいきますが、小説では様々な人物の視点からになります。
これが小説版の見どころでもあるかと。

文庫版のみ、香川照之さんの「あとがき」がありますが、文才のある方ですので、やはり巧いですね。
２つの終わり方（いわゆる希望バージョン、絶望バージョン）を書いていらっしゃいますが、どちらも好きです。
稔を演じた香川さんの文章だからこそ、読んでいて感慨深いものがあります。
映画では基本的に全編に渡って「自分の思うように解釈してくれ」という感じですので、「どういう最後か、真実はいったいどうだったのか」は人それぞれ考えているものが違うと思います。

小説から読んでも良い作品であることには変わりありませんが、最初に書いたように是非映画から見ていただきたいですね。
