「猫の海ちゃんの成長を綴る」の帯に引かれて買ってしまった一冊。
猫好きの私としては、写真集だけにしてほしかった。いくら文章で飾っても、猫の写真が取りたくて猫を飼い、自分たちの都合で里子に出した事実は知りたくなかった。海ちゃんがおばちゃんとほとんどの生涯を暮らせたことは唯一の救い。

　写真中心の文庫『海ちゃん―ある猫の物語』を読んで、心癒され、もっと海ちゃんを知りたいと言う
思いから購入した１冊です。岩合光昭さんの写真ももちろんあるのですが、この本は奥様の
岩合日出子さんの著書です。
　海ちゃんが岩合家にやってきた経緯、海ちゃんではなく、姉妹の類ちゃんを引き取ろうかと迷った事、

そして岩合夫妻のお子さんが産まれる前に、奥様の実家へ海ちゃんを預ける際の著者の心の揺れ動き、
そして海ちゃんの微妙な心の揺れ動きが、細やかに書かれています。
　『文庫版あとがき』では、海ちゃんに最後に会った日のことが書かれていて
猫は本当に恩を忘れない
生き物なのだと感じ入りました。

　この本は、大半の漢字に読み仮名がふっていますので、小学生でも読めると思います。ただし、それは
この本が決して子供向けという意味ではなく『生きること』『動物との心のふれあい』と言う
大人も充分考えさせられる深い内容のある本だということは明記しておきます。

写真は実にかわいい。牛絡みのショットなど双方の台詞まで考えてしまうほど。猫好きにはたまらない一冊。

……ではなんで☆３つかというと、他の方のご指摘の通り、写真だけで充分な内容（というか「範囲」？）に収まっちゃっているからです。そうなると、写真だけ楽しむのにこの大きさとこの写真の量では……この文字だけのページ要らないからもっと写真載せてくれれば……と突っ込みたくなってしまうわけです。
マーケットプレイスで３歳の娘用に買ったため、その感が余計強くなったということもあるんでしょうけれども。

ちなみに「文庫」と名乗ってますがサイズは新書版です。
