古代の神話を研究して、それを天文学に結びつけて、ユニークな論理を展開している。
古代の神話にでてくる惑星神にはシンボリズムとしての意味があると思いますが、
シンボリズムとして扱われた「惑星」をそのまま、物理的、天文学的な意味に受け取って、
独自の太陽系の歴史を想定するのはどうかと思います。
読み物としての面白さがあるので、長年にわたって出版されていますが、あくまでエンターテイメント系の読み物として扱うのが無難でしょう。

天文学というよりは、神話のシンポリズムに関心がある人にはおもしろいでしょう。

ヴェリコフスキーは紀元前１５世紀頃と紀元前８世紀頃に天変地異が地球を襲った、と主張していましたが、
最近の炭素年代測定や年輪年代測定によると、紀元前８世紀頃の約百年間に、全地球規模の突発的環境変動があったのは事実のようであります。
また、古代の人々が、金星を尻尾や牛の角を生やした「軍神」として畏れ奉っていたことや、金星が実際に彗星と同じプラズマの尻尾を持っているのも事実であります。

現在、物理学が１１次元や２６次元といった数学的虚妄の世界を、天文学が観測不能の「暗黒ナントカ」の世界をさ迷う中、実験観測に基づく「プラズマ宇宙論」の台頭とともに、重力よりも電磁気力を重視したヴェリコフスキーを再評価する動きもあります。


ヴェリコフスキーは古代史に関する本を何冊か書いていて、そちらが彼のライフワークだったのですが、先覚者に敬意を表してそれらの日本語版も出版して欲しいものです。
その内容は本書に負けず劣らずショッキングで、姉妹版でもある、
「Ages in Chaos」（これは“混沌時代”という邦訳版があります）では、古代エジプト年代から虚構の６００年を、ギリシアから虚構の「暗黒時代」を差っ引き、
「Oedipus & Akhnaton」では、ギリシアのオイディプス神話は、エジプトのアケナトン王一族の悲劇を直接に伝えるものだとと論じ、
「Ramses２ & His Time」では、ラムセス２世の正体は「カルケミシュの戦い」で活躍したネコ２世、ヒッタイトの正体は新バビロニアのカルデア人だと論じ、
「Peoples of the Sea」では、ラムセス３世らが戦った「海の民」というのはペリシテ人のことではなく、遥か後代のペルシア軍のことだと論じています。
