新人物往来社で１９９８年に出版された「乗った降りたＪＲ４６００駅」を出版社を替えて出しなおしたということで、駅舎の写真が加わり記録本としてのレベルにようやく達した、と言いたいのですが、何故地図が無い！宮脇俊三さんの最初の本はコストを抑えるために手書きの地図を載せていたのを思い出しました。せめて路線図、欲を言えば道路も含めた地図、次作の私鉄篇でどのようにクリアするかまあ楽しみでもあります。社会的背景も含めて駅舎のその後を描くことは、横見氏には畑違いかもしれませんが、私鉄篇と合わせて大いに期待しています。それにしてもアルバイトして資金を貯め、都合のいい日程で鉄を行う、という自分を生きているというまさにライフスタイルを確立している生き方に、驚きました。

全駅に降りたのは凄いけど、なんか文章わかりにくい、といか1冊に
まとめるのは難しい様に感じました。
旅費を節約するため、写真がまったくと言って良いほど無し、その代わりに駅構内を
スケッチしたとのことですが、その描画は公開していない。
鉄道好きなら文章だけでも伝わるかもしれませんが、そうでない人にはどうかな？
でも、鉄道に対する熱意は十分伝わります
私は図書館で借りて読みました。

『鉄子の旅』で横見さんの“全駅下車”の実績を知り、その模様が収録された本が絶版となっていたのがＫＫベストセラーズより復刻することになり、首を長くして発売を待ちました。
読み始めてみたものの、旅の様子だとか駅舎の様子がなにも伝わってこず、何に感心してよいのか戸惑いました。
その町の歴史を深く探求するでもなく、駅舎の良さを表すでもなく、ただ淡々と駅舎下車をこなしていくだけの旅。。駅舎の表現も「昔懐かしい木造の駅舎」ですべてごまかされており、読んでいて語彙の少なさ、駅舎建築に対する見識の浅さに、「ああー、この方は駅を降りることだけが目的なんだな。その良さを伝えるすべを知らないんだなー」と残念に思いました。この本を読んで、すこしでもローカル線の良さ、古い駅舎の見方、良さなどを知らしめる教育本になればよかったのですが、その願いもかないそうにありません。。
『鉄子の旅』が、いかに菊池さんの演出力に助けられているのかを証明してしまった本（JR全線全駅下車の旅）でした。。
全駅下車はすごいとは思います。
