単にテニスの歴史が述べられていただけの印象だった。
もう少し社会学的な考察がされているのかと期待していただけに残念。

テニス界の、少なくとも世界のトッププロのレベルでは、サーブ＆ボレー主体のプレイヤーが
ほとんどいなくなったことは事実です。かつてはサーブ＆ボレーヤーの晴れ舞台だったウイン
ブルドンでも、いまやサーブ＆ボレーONLYでは勝ち進むことができません。その答えについて
の著者なりの意見が聞けることを期待して読み進めたのですが、最後までテニスの歴史やトリ
ビアな事実の記述に終始してしまい、拍子抜けしてしまいました。「サーブ＆ボレーが消え
た」という事実のみが示され、その理由は示されていません。「リターンのレベルが向上し
た」「ボールが変わった」など、専門家しか知りえない事実に裏付けられた理由を示して欲し
かった…　最近は、売らんがために安易に「なぜ○○は××なのか」というタイトルの本が目
立ちますが、この本に関しては、看板に偽りありだと思います。あくまでテニスの基本的な歴
史を知るための参考本です。

残念です。
タイトルに偽り有です。
売りに来たお客さんが、「内容が期待した物と違った。」と、言っていたので、読んでみましたが、本当にそうでした。
テニスの歴史の本でした。

著者はテニスの心得があるのでしょうか？
勿論、こういった本を書くほどであれば、当然プレーの経験はあると思いますが・・・
しかし、あえて悪く例えるなら、傍観者がノスタルジックに書いた本のようです。
専門家や売る側、作る側、そして、その世界で何かを良くしようと模索していく作業をしている人が書いた本ではない感じがします。

ただ、タイトルと全く違う見方をすれば、とてもよく出来た本だと思います。『テニスの歴史』と、いうタイトルであれば、よく調べてあるので評価が高かったでしょう。テニスの歴史や雑学を知りたい人にはおススメです。

せめて著者が、サーブ＆ボレーで、若いハナタレ学生にスコスコとパスを抜かれる悔しさを経験してから、書いて欲しかった。
そしたら、きっと本気で書いたでしょう。
そうでなければ、題名を変えるべきでした。
よく整理された素晴らしい本ですが、サーブ＆ボレーが消えた事を残念に思わない、その文章には力が宿らない。
偉そうですみません。
