   ふとしたきっかけで、かあさんうさぎに拾われた双子のような2人の子ども「むくむくちゃん」と「ぷくぷくちゃん」。人間の子どもに、うさぎの子どもたちはもじもじ落ち着かない。でも、かあさんうさぎの縫った服を着たならば、2人もすっかりうさぎの仲間。

   2人の子どもがうさぎに拾われてから、家族のもとへ帰るまでを描いた絵本。著者のジビュレ・フォン・オルファースは1881年生まれ。1916年に世を去るまでに残した8冊の絵本は、ドイツ古典絵本の傑作として長く読みつがれている。

   宗教画も手がけたオルファースの素朴な画調は、今の時代においてもみずみずしさを失ってはいない。色刷りの絵の上に白黒の絵を配置することで「同じ場面を別の場所からのぞくようなおもしろさ」もある7枚のイラストは、それぞれがそのまま壁に飾っておきたくなるほどの愛らしさだ。子どもだけでなく、大人の心にも春の暖かさを感じさせてくれる1冊である。（小山由絵）

うさぎがとっても可愛いし、シンプルな物語もとっても心地よくてgoodだし、もーゆーことありませんー。ドイツ国では【古典】となってるらしいけど、そんなの当たり前です。あまりの美しさ、可愛らしさ、に、脱帽どころか脱毛です。このひと、自然をとっても愛していたんだなあ、しかも清らかな心で・・・としみじみと思わせられるキラキラ星のような作品です。
ほんと―――――――ーに、素晴らしい。拍手。

かわいすぎ！！もともと「うさぎ好き」な私ですが、この絵本の中の「うさぎの着ぐるみ」の子供は気絶するぐらいかわいいです！！絵は淡い色調がすばらしいし、訳もいいし名作中の名作です。最初図書館で子供のために借りたのですが、どうしても自分のものにしたくて（笑）購入しました。あと、同作者の「ゆきのおしろへ」もすばらしいですよ。

オイリュトミスト秦さんによるオルファースの邦訳シリーズ。初出は1906年。
浮世絵風な色使い、戯画風な線画が、不思議な森の雰囲気をかもし出しています。
この時代から’着ぐるみ’という観念があったのでしょうか？
モデルとなった双子ちゃんはさぞ可愛かったでしょうね。

ウサギ好きな方なら「ふわふわしっぽと小さなきんのくつ」もオススメ。
