この本は、北中正和さんのインタビューをもとに構成されたもので、
今回平凡社ライブラリーに収められた。定価は高い。
高いけど、それだけの価値はある。
といってもそれは細野さんに興味を抱く人にとってのことだけれど。

いちばん驚いたのは、ドラッグにのめり込んでいた時期があったということ。
また「おっちゃんのリズム」という一拍子のリズムの話。
いまや、目新しい概念ではないが、
「ここに始まる日本のポップス」と言えるかもしれない。

小原礼が抜けたあと、
サディスティック・ミカ・バンドのベースをやったこと
（私の誕生日に行われたライブだったことは覚えている）は一部では有名。
細野さん、どこかのインタビューで、本気で加入を考えて、
『泰安洋行』の「蝶々ｓａｎ」は、初代ミカをイメージして
書いたと語っていた記憶がある。

宗教的なものへのアプローチが随所に見られるのは、
1991年という時代のせいかもしれない。

１３年前に刊行された本の文庫版。インタビューは９１年頃に行われたものである。数あるホソノ本の中でも、個人的にベスト３に入る濃い内容だが、編者が後書きで記しているように、複雑で巨大なホソノワールドにとっては、氷山の一角に過ぎないのは明らかだ。一度迷い込んだらそう簡単には抜け出せない所なんです。しかし、ここで彷徨うことで何かを発見できるはずである。

ハリー細野氏のことを言葉にできる人は少ないと思うし、難しいこととは思う。しかし言葉で聴きたいときもあるもので、この本は読みごたえがある。最近出た「対談の本―ロックンロールから枝豆まで」は本人の言葉だけに、これもまた良い。
ハリーは聴けば聴くほど、アンビエントなものまで含めて全部、「うたごころ」が感じられる。本人は「文学的」ではないとおっしゃるが、根っこにはうたごころやソウルミュージックが強く息づいているように思えます。最近の活動を見ればそれが間違いでは無かったと感じています。
うたごころが言葉として記録された素晴らしいインタビューだと思います。
