　捨てられた犬、迷い犬を保護し続け、家庭犬として幸せな暮らしをおくらせることに尽力する著者のノンフィクションである。野良犬が許されぬ日本というのは厳しいなあと思う。でも、狭い国土で外国のように犬を放し飼いにしたら、車にはねられてしまうしなあ…。難しいところだ。

　阪神大震災での、獣医ボランティアによる負傷犬のケアなどしみじみとすごいなあと思えるエピソード満載である。ただ、好きなだけでは出来ないのだろうな。犬への愛と責任感とか、使命感とかその他諸々の、人間のエゴを捨てて犬の幸せとは何かを、全身全霊で考え実践する著者を尊敬する。

この本を読んだのは単純に犬が好きだから。
けれど、読み終えた後、私には犬を飼うことは出来ないと思いました。
それは悲しい結論ではありませんでした。
「かわいい」と思うだけで、犬を飼うことは出来ないと思ったから。
私はこの本を読んで、犬を尊敬しました。
人間に裏切られても、また人間というものに愛情を抱く犬たちを

私はすばらしい生き物だと思いました。
反面そんな犬たちを不幸にする人間もいるかと思うと
胸が痛くなります。
感動した、涙が出た、ということはありませんでした。
むしろ突きつけられた現実に心が痛みました。
忘れられない作品になりそうです。
もっと多くの人にこの本を読んでもらい
もっと多くの犬たちが幸せになれることを願っています。
