「写真おやじ」二人が元気だ。写真集は、電車のドア窓脇に立つ女子高生の横顔モノクロ（森山）から始まる。窓は完全に真っ白に飛んでいて、逆行の中に浮かぶ彼女の顔の輪郭、開いた唇、目の表情が素晴らしい。ソリッドでぐっとくる。「新宿」である。次は荒木のカラー写真で、夕日に沈む高層ビルのシルエット。画面下半分は完全に真っ暗で、かすかに夕日を照り返す建物の屋根が燐光のように散らばっている。次は、走る総武線の車中から撮った新宿駅西口の夜景モノクロの見開き（森山）。この左下に写真集タイトルが入っている。ラストは、ざらざらに荒れた新宿副都心の夜景見開きで、ノーファインダーなのだろう、画面は大きく傾いている（森山）。この写真で終わるところは演出として最良だ。完全に決まっている。二人の写真は、ほぼ交互に組まれ、この編集がとても刺激的。どちらかひとりの写真集からは得られない効果を生み出している。かけ算的魅力だ。この写真は、どっちが撮ったのだろう？と巻末クレジットで確かめるクイズ的な楽しみ方もある。まったく個性の違う、二人の写真家としての輪郭が、新宿を舞台にしてくっきりと際立つ。その意味では、表紙にまったく写真を使わず、真っ白にした装丁は、よくこの作品の内容を表現しているといえる。

　荒木氏の撮る新宿。蒸し暑い匂いが立ち込めたあの街。
私が１５年前に住んでいた頃の、あの喧騒をよみがえらせます。
　森山氏の新宿は、背中を丸めて、一人ぼっちで夜道を歩いた、あの風景
を思い出させます。
　２人の個性を、こういうかたちでまぜこぜに収めることによって新宿という
街が浮かび上がって見える・・・面白い写真集だと感じました。
大判で、これで３５００円なら充分買いでは？

でかいし、沢山のってるし、安いし。でも本人たちの意図かは知らぬがちょっと見にくい。写真が撮りたくなります。
