このお話、ヒーローがとても魅力的です。
やんちゃな厄介者の設定ですが、粗雑な感じは全然しなくて、意外に繊細なところもある魅力的なヒーローです。
わざとバカなふりをしたりして愛嬌たっぷりなのに、頼れるところもあります。

ヒロインはちょっと愛嬌がないです。古代エジプト研究にだけ情熱を注いでいます。
前夫から精神的な傷を受けて、お堅く面白みのない未亡人になってしまいました。
ヒーローと出会うことによって、束縛から解放され自由で明るい性格に戻ります。

エジプト関係の描写も詳細で、謎解きも複雑な高レベルの作品だと思います。
ただ中盤までヒロインの性格の堅さなどからギスギスしていて、設定も複雑なだけに小難しい感じはしました。
終盤は盛り上がって、一気にラストスパートをかけられます（エピローグもいいです）。

以前から好きな古代エジプトに関わる話だし、前の方のプレビューもよさげだし、
と過大な期待はせず読み始めたのですが…　私には大当たりでした！　
ヒストリカルが大好きで色々読みましたが、正直似たような話も多く混同しがちな中、
この話は全く違う！　
エジプトという異国での冒険という設定が、ヒーローの魅力を語るオリジナリティ
あふれるエピソード（召使たちから精霊：ジンニーとして尊崇されたり）を生み、
また協力して困難に立ち向かうという二人の対等な関係性を生み出し大成功しています。
ヒロインは素晴らしい容貌の持ち主なのに亡夫（３倍近い年の差！）によって自信を
喪失していて、社交を避け研究に没頭する本の虫、でも心の奥に情熱を秘めている。
ヒーローは、ヒロインの知的好奇心を尊重し、自信を回復させていく…　
お互いの容姿だけでなく人間性に惹かれあっているところが、大好きです。
それを象徴する、終盤のヒーローの求愛のセリフは必見！

秀逸なのはやはりヒーローのキャラクター。
いたずらっ子がそのまま大きくなったようなお茶目な人です。
このヒーローが堅物ダフネにメロメロになってる様子が楽しい。
スカートにまとわりつく子犬のようになにかといってはちょっかいを出して
からかって、そうしながら徐々に気持ちを深めていきます。
無法地帯の当時のエジプトを旅する冒険も臨場感があって
好きな人は十分楽しめると思います。
