まず、装丁が素敵。
すりガラスの向こうに美しい窓辺が見えるようで、本への期待感を高めてくれる。

葉さんの過ごした、ポートランドでの数年間が凝縮されている。
本の中からポートランド（行ったことはないのだけれど）の、
爽やかな風、緑の美しさ、薔薇園の薔薇たちの香しさ、美味しそうな香り、土のにおい…そんなものが溢れてくるような錯覚に陥る。
彼女の横で、彼女がつくるアップルソースのお鍋を覗き込んでいるような気持ちになる。
数々のレシピ、全部おいしそう！
なんでもない一日でも、葉さんと過ごしたらとびきりの一日になりそう。
彼女は生活を楽しむ、生きることを楽しむ達人、だと思う。
ポートランドでは、ニューヨーク生活以上に活き活きと、いろんなものを発見して、彼女の内なる財産に加えたのではないか。
私はこんなに、生きることを…身体にも心にも余計な力をいれずに、自然に楽しんでいる人を　彼女以外に知らない。
自分らしく、自然に生きるっていうことは　言葉で言うほど簡単ではない、と思う。
でも、彼女の紡ぐことばから、行間から、写真から、ポートランドの森の精のように、かろやかに、前向きに
生きている彼女を感じることが出来る。

正直言って、うらやましい。
永いこと死にたいとばかり考えていた鬱病の私に、この本は「生きるってこんなにたのしいんだよ。」と、
ささやきかけてくれているようだ。
葉さん、少女のようなあなたの背中に、妖精の羽が生えているのが私には見えます。

ポートランドを訪ねてみたくなった。
この本を片手に、葉さんの紹介してくれたあたたかくて、でもちょっとはにかみやさんのような　素敵な人たちに会いに行きたくなった。
こんな素敵な街で、私も暮らしてみたくなった。

また一冊、私のお気に入りの本が増えました。

写真もキレイ、装丁もすてき。
でも何より、著者独特のイキイキとした文章に星５つです。

この本を読むと元気になり、おいしいものが作りたくなり、
散歩がしたくなり、本屋に行きたくなり……。

そして必ず、ポートランドに行きたくなります！

「NYで〜」から始まる三部作の最後だけど、これは期待はずれ。

この人は、行き当たりばったりで言っていることに一貫性がない。
前作で二人暮らしの素晴らしさ、他人と暮らすことの難しさや
それを乗り越える喜び、をさんざん語っていたのに、
本作ではあっという間に離婚してるし･･･

前作：「1+1は2以上になり得る」
本作：「必ずしもその方程式はあてはまらない」

マジですか･･･なんだそれは、と言いたくなる。

しかも、前作でNYに息苦しさを感じてポートランドへ。
本作では、一転、NYに帰りたくなって、ポートランドを離れる。

以前から、若干違和感を感じていた作者の価値観。
舞台女優を目指してNYへ→やっぱり自分のやりたいことは
女優ではなくて執筆→それなのに、現在は普通のOL。

友達はどんなに仲良くてもその時限り。
移ろいやすいものである。

なんだか、結婚も、仕事も、友情も全部が
成り行き任せ。
さすが自由人、といううべきか。
それとも、これがアメリカ流？
いい加減さを免れないと思うのは私だけ？
