出てきた時の大友の特質が良く出ており、'70年代の気分が感じられ、「ショートピース」と共に大傑作「童夢」に至る大友の原点と言える傑作短編集。退屈な日常に、限定された人間たちの個人的な事件が起きたり、起きなかったり。妙にリアルで白い画で描かれた汗、子供の体型、奥さんの身体など、現実のカッコ悪さ、情けなさ、むさくるしさと共に、その時の気分が感じられる。しかしそれぞれの読後感は、ただ暑さを感じたり、閉塞感あるいは爽快感を感じたりと、様々。また、「星霜」「さよならのおみやげ」など語るストーリーを持つ老人が主人公のものは、素晴らしい短編小説を読んだ後の満足感が残る。個人的には表題作の「ハイウェイスター」が好きですが、どの話もおもしろく、特に老人が素晴らしい。他の誰でもない大友の傑作揃いです。読めるうちに読むべし。

有名になる前の大友克洋の作品集。普通の娯楽作品とは一味も二味も違う異質の作品集です。AKIRAだけしか知らない人が楽しめるかどうかはわからないが、童夢を面白いと感じた人なら買うべきです。なんでもない日常の一場面を独特の雰囲気で描いて鑑賞に堪えうるものにしてしまう異常な力量が伝わってきます。

彼が「天才」といわれる理由を探すにはAKIRAよりもこの作品集のほうが適していると思います。

　大友克洋初期の傑作を集めた作品集。
ＳＦばかり描いてると思われがちですが、日常の１コマを
描かせてもとても巧い。「家族」「スカッとさわやか」
「酒井さんちのゆきえちゃん」など、どうでもいい日常が
マンガのネタになる。すごいマンガ家です。
　この頃から、白いところが多くて、主人公がダレでもなく

神のような視点で描かれています。これぞ大友の原点！
