この作品に限っては、作者の「絵の下手さ」というものが、逆に魅力になっている。というか、表情とか線の弱弱しさや背景の書き込みの薄さ（全体的に画面が白っぽい）などなど、確実に絵やマンガ的構図のテクニックが魅力の作品ではない。実際、連載中は、あまりの印象のなさやスカスカ感で、全然読む気がなく、無視していた。作品が完成して、人づてに名作だと聞いて初めて手をつけたくらいです。

しかし、著者が描きたい核心というのは、「そういう絵的なモノ」ではないのであろう。個人的には山岸涼子の『日出処の天子』を連想させられる。彼女の作品も、絵は圧倒的に下手なのに、異様な迫力と怨念のようなオーラが、それをすべてひっくり返してしまう不思議な作品であった。田野井のぐじゃぐじゃの目に宿る怨念というかパワーには圧倒させられるが、技術的には「ただの汚い線（笑）」にすぎない。マンガには、スラムダンクの井上雄彦のように、静止画としての絵画的な美しさや技術に強烈にはまるタイプと、絵ではなくひたすらその背後にある「核心」部分のみを追い続ける作家とに別れるが、さそうあきらさんは、後者ですねぇ。
