比肩するもののない漫画家の地位を確立してしまった西原理恵子のまだもう少し若かったころのエッセイ集。

本人が自分で文章を全部書ききったのはほとんどないと言っている位だから，
本当に編集者の手がよく入った本なのだろうが，
著者がぽつんとでも懸命に生きてきた姿は本書からもありありと浮かびあがってくる。

文庫版のみに収められている巻末の漫画は働く人の胸を打たずにはいられない小作品。

西原理恵子の初期の頃のエッセイで、
今よりもっとパワーがあったように思う。
めちゃくちゃやっていたりするけれど、
どこかに、心優しい一面を覗かせいるので、
どうしても憎めない人である。

この本の中では「こぷるちゃん」という猫が
死んでしまった際の話で泣けてしまった。

西原の原点がここにあると感じる。

漫画家なんですよね、このひと。 チクロ幼稚園とか、マージャン放浪記とか男前な漫画を書いてます． でもこの人が人にたいして持ってる目は厳しいようだけど、凄く優しい。 泣かされるんだけど、その湿っぽさを長引かせずに、次のページでは、からっとした笑いに変えてしまうあたりさすが．
