　これまでアジア貧乏旅行を書き続けてきた著者が、日本国内であるはずの「沖縄」に手を伸ばした本。沖縄を、本土とは違うアジアの一部として捉えた視点は秀逸で、とてつもない良書であった。
　きっかけは沖縄の大衆食堂。なぜ、食べきれないほどの量が出てくるのか。過剰なまでのサービス精神は何に原因するのか。それはつまり、沖縄が東南アジアだったからなのである。いい加減、経済性無視、海で泳がない、やたらと自動車を使いたがるなどなど、沖縄人には本土人には理解できない（or腹立たしい）性癖がある。しかし、これはすべて東南アジアの特徴なのであり、「沖縄は日本ではない」という発想の切り替えによって、沖縄人との適度な距離を認識することが出来るようになる。
　沖縄に移住したい人、通いたい人は必読の一冊。
