犯人が誰なのかが警察に明らかになる顛末が解せない。あれほど用意周到に自分が特定できないような手法をとっていた犯人が、宅配便の送り状に自分の名前を書くか？と思う。それこそ信頼して存分に利用した普通郵便で匿名で遅れば済む事だ。それに登場人物が書き込めていないので、感情移入できない。犯人も犯人のアシスタント、警察側の人間も大雑把にしか描かれていない。楽しめず、すっきりしない話だった。

時々、書評で取り上げられているのに気がついたことはありましたが、原作よりTVドラマ化されたり映画化された映像作品の方が評判になることの多い作家という印象なので敬遠してきました。個人的な偏見なのですが安易に映像化しやすい作品はプロットとしての見せ場は多いのですが、肝心の人物が描けていないので深みのある読後感が得られないと思っているからです。本作も残念ながらその通りでした。
　会社立て直しのため乗り込んできた銀行出身の上司からリストラ説得係りとして退職させた先輩を一家心中させそのため自分の娘にまで自殺されてしまった主人公が時の首相の孫娘を誘拐するお話。主人公の個人的事情が誘拐事件の動機としてどう関わるかは読み進まないとわからない構成になっているのはよしとしても、大事件の割には簡単に誘拐が成功してしまうところが少し非現実的ですし、身代金の他に孫娘開放の条件だった日韓友好条約の締結破棄も韓国大統領が来日しあっさり締結されるのも納得いきません。実はこのあたりは作者があえてそうしたカラクリなのですが、読んでいくうちに成程そうだったのかと読者をうならせる必然性が希薄なのです。身代金の奪取の方法に株式のやり取りを利用した着眼は今日的でユニークだと思いますが、これだけの事件を慎重に企んだにしては本人があっさり本名をしかも全く明かす必要のないときに明かしてしまうなど、それはないでしょという箇所がいくつか散見されます。最後のヒネリも作者が何とかコジツケようとしているのはわかりますが、このヒネリに至るまで作中にまかれているネタが少し読者にフェアでない感じがします。登場人物の中ではただ一人やや人物が描かれているノンキャリの特殊捜査班二係、星野警部など本来ならもっと良い味がだせるのでしょうが、それにしてもこの警部が事件の本筋を見抜くロジックは到底読者に理解できないような気がします。

捕まるきっかけの本名明記って...
他の場面での慎重さ、用意周到さからすると意図的にしたとしか理解できないけど、なぜ？？？
最初から逃げ通す気がなかったってことかなあ...
ミスがないと捕まるきっかけがなく話がまとまらない?ので無理矢理...

株価操作での利益も、何も株価回復まで待たなくても空売りしていれば早期撤退が可能だという突っ込みもできるけどまあいいや。
