「それでも、警官は微笑う」で人気を得た日明恩作品を、この書き下ろしで初体験した。
映画「シックス、センス」をキイワードに始まる死者が見える中学２年の橋口明生と、
元刑事の教訓が沁みついている須賀原の２人が、現世に思いを残して彷徨っている死者を解放してゆく。
ただのファンタジー的な内容でなく、須賀原が抱えている孤独と罪悪感がラストに向けて明らかになる展開と、明生が見える死者が抱える想いが毎回異なり飽きさせない。
せちがらい世の中だけど、過去に縛られて今を生きれなくなるのは、まだ生きているだけに物哀しいものがある。
その哀しみが和らぐラストが、優しい穏やかな風が作品からそよぐようなかんじだ。

死者の姿が見え、声も聞こえる。だが、そのことを誰も理解してくれない。
中学生の少年橋口明生にとっては過酷な状況だったに違いない。しかし、
手を差し伸べてくれた元刑事の須賀原とともに、死者の遺した思いや無念さを
解き放っていく。それに伴い、明生や須賀原が抱える心の傷もしだいに癒されて
いく。死んでいく者も哀れだが、遺された者も切ない。読んでいて胸が痛くなる
ような描写があちこちにあった。この作品は生者と死者の物語であると同時に、
生者の再生の物語でもある。ラストは救いがあって、本当によかった。

死んだ人を見たくなくても見えてしまう主人公の一人の中学生にとって、その能力は正に神様からの贈り物だったのかもしれない。

この世に残っている霊から見れば、この中学生こそが正に神様からの贈り物。

見えないものが見えるということに慣れはないのだろうか？

俯く、顰める、嘘を吐く、という難しい漢字が気になったのは私だけかもしれない。

「正義のミカタ」のオカルト版と伝えたほうが正しい、そんな本です。
