表の顔はオーケストラ、裏の顔は詐欺師集団が
謎の女に唆され、史上最大のハイジャック事件を起こす！
ジャックするのは東京、人質は東京都民一千万人！
恫喝の道具は、ナチスが開発した秘密潜水艦。
東京湾から隅田川を遡上し、
ミサイル(サブロック)で皇居の隣の沼を攻撃。
核爆雷が装備されていたら、国体はアボーンされる。
公安課長は、都民を避難させる作戦を発動。
どうなる東京！タイムリミットは24時間！！
謎の女の目的とは！?

という話です(実は違うw)
小松左京の「物体Ｏ」へのオマージュである。
「首都消失」ではなくて「物体Ｏ」だと言うのがミソ。
普通の作家なら実は詐欺師なオーケストラの設定だけで、
シリーズ化して量産しそうだが、
天才の山田正紀にとっては、捨て石の小ネタにしか過ぎない。
皇居攻撃ネタも単なるオマケ。
テロリストと官憲の知恵比べアクションの枠をアウフヘーベンしている傑作。
天才の突き抜け過ぎている物語に、
普通の人は付いていけないかもしれない。
ラストの真相に怒る人もいそうだなｗ

　オビには『“幻”の名作　３０年の時を経て初の単行本化！　オーケストラ団員が、東京をまるごとジャック、奇想天外なアイディアと抜群のストーリーテリング、１９７８年に「小説推理」誌上に発表されたのち、長い眠りに入っていた作品が、いま目覚める！』とある。こんな惹句に買って読んでみたが、見事に裏切られた。

　犯人グループが楽団員であることが全く事件の推移に活かされていない。音楽家ならでは、演奏者ならではというのがない。我慢して読み進んだが、結局最後まで音楽的なシーンがなかった。眼目というべき人物の同一性もすぐに気付いてしまい、真の動機への興味だけで読んだが、その動機の弱さに、こじつけめいた話にがっかりした。出版不況の深刻さを感じた。

　デビュー３作目とのこと。荒削りな印象を受けるが、文章はよく書けている。細かな描写がない分、却って良かったように思う。

　結論としては、今すぐに読む意味はない。文庫化されてから読めば十分。著者のファン以外には薦められない。
