映画の影響で初めて筆者の本を、『半落ち』を読みました。
それで芋づる式にこの本を読みました。

とにかく、途中で止めることが出来ませんでした。一気に読みました。
女の身からは到底計り知れない男の心の機微がとても分かりやすく書かれ、新鮮な思いでした。感動しました。
また、働き盛りを夫に持つ身としては身につまされもしました。^^ゞ

警察という閉鎖された社会を舞台としたミステリーで一時代を築いたといえる作者が、初めて警察という舞台を離れて書いた短編集。

収録された作品は「真相」「18番ホール」「不眠」「花輪の海」「他人の家」。

初期からのファンとして、最近の作品のミステリー性が薄れてきたのが気になっていたが、本作品では再びミステリー性があがっており、良質の短編集と思う。
個人的には「真相」が好きである。

2003年は、東野圭吾の「手紙」、真保裕一の「繋がれた明日」と、「犯罪者の罪と人権」をテーマに扱った作品がトレンドであるが、本作品中の「他人の家」も同様のテーマを扱っている。今年のベスト１０に同じテーマを違う視点から扱った作品が入りそうで楽しみである。

昨年は「半落ち」で最高の一年を!すごした作者だったが、今年になって自身の心筋梗塞、直木賞、山本周五郎賞落選と、上半期はツキのない事態が続いている。本作品で一気に盛り返しなるか！

　この本は５つの作品から成る短編集です。
　それぞれの話は完全に独立しており、主人公も、二代目税理士、村長選に出馬する元県庁職員、前科者、リストラされたサラリーマン等、多彩です。そして、それぞれが、組織や社会と闘い、人間関係に苦悩しています。
　『横山短編集＝警察物』というイメージを、良い意味で見事に裏切ってくれた１冊です。
　横山作品は全部読んだのですが、個人的には、この１冊が一番横山エッセンスの濃い短編集だと思います。
