著者について

1968年千葉県生まれ。大学卒業後、会社勤務を経て執筆活動に入る。第26回(2004年)『小説推理新人賞』(選考委員/森村誠一氏、乃南アサ氏、花村萬月氏)を受賞。その後、『小説推理』に掲載された「大松鮨の奇妙な客」(現在、双葉ノベルス『九杯目には早すぎる』に所収)が第58回(2005年)『日本推理作家協会賞・短編部門』の候補となる。

『小説推理』誌に連載（07年04月-08年03月号）された12編，
これに書きおろし1編くわえた，合計13編の短編集になります．

ある編では主役だった人物が，ほかの編では脇役になるなど，
さまざまな事件を，さまざまな視点，時間から切り出しており，
「さっきの編のあの人」「あの場所の別視点？」といった具合に，
すべての人物，言動，場所やアイテムにまで目が離せなくなります．

また，複数の物語に広がってはいるものの，ひとつの『芯』があり，
人や物語が収束に向かい，たたまれていく終盤はなかなかの読み応え．
連載時とは収録順も違うようで，練られた作品だったことに気づきます．
反面，これに気づけない中盤あたりでは，ややだれる感もありましたが…．

ちょっとメモを取りながら読むと，いっそう楽しめると思いますし，
巻末にある連載時の順番で読み直すと，また違う発見がありそうです．

短編集です。
が、蒼井さんらしく、それぞれの話が
少しずつ微妙にリンクしながら
最後、書き下ろしの物語で大円団を迎えます。

この人がこんなところで、
この出来事はこの出来事のせいで･･･

何の関係もなさそうで
実は深く結びついてたり、
その発見が楽しく、
また、驚きの連続でした。

こういう連作短編だと
蒼井さんのキレのよさが光りますね。

5.0 out of 5 stars 〈名探偵〉不在の町で繰り広げられる、俗人たちの悲喜劇, 2008/6/29
ホームズもののタイトルをもじった七篇の短篇と六編の掌編からなる連作集。


シャーロキアンの方には、作中でなされている
「引用」をさがす、といった楽しみもあると思います。


読み進めていくと、各短篇・掌編の間に意外な繋がりがあることが、
しだいに明らかになっていき、ラストに向けて収斂されていきます。

ただ、タイトル通り、ホームズ＝〈名探偵〉役が不在の物語なので、
作品世界が、ひとつの強固な論理によって秩序付けられるというより、
意図せざる人々の思惑が幾重にも錯綜した果てに、今回の結末が
導かれた、という印象です。



著者のサラリーマン経験からなのか、作家としての資質なのか、
登場人物たちには、実在していてもおかしくないリアリティと
生々しさがあり、その上、矮小さや俗人っぷりを浮かび上がらせる
描写がなされているため、感情移入できるような人物はあまりいません。


同じく、サラリーマン経験のある石持浅海氏にも言えるのですが、
彼らが描く人物たちは、どうも毒や悪意が張り付いているように思いますｗ
