織田信長、葛飾北斎、南方熊楠、野口英世、中内功を題材にとり、「発達障害にはプラスの側面はある」と主張している書。
著者の言う、それを悪とだけ取ることは間違い、という部分に異論はないのだが、著者の主張の論理展開は滅茶苦茶の一言である。

まず、何よりも、この書で取り上げた人物は発達障害なのか、という疑問がわく。
例えば、織田信長は、幼い頃から粗暴で奇抜な行動を取っていた、などということだけだし、野口英世にしてももの凄い浪費癖があったこと、だけが著者の主張のよりどころである。さらに、中内功の「戦争体験によって、人生観が変わった」に至っては発達障害とは関係がない。
さらに、著者の言う発達障害そのものの話についても疑問だ。
野口英世の章で、生物は直感的に数を認識したり、計算を行う能力を有している。しかし、発達障害でその部分に困難を来し、数字のセンスなどを欠く者がいる。ここまでは良いとして、そこから、「サラ金地獄やカード破産などが起こるのはそのため」などと言い出す。論理をすさまじい勢いで明後日の方向へと飛躍させてしまうのである。他にも、様々なエピソードを無理矢理に発達障害に（それも、かなり誇張の多い表現で）結びつけているだけの部分が多い。

著名人のエピソードを記した著書としても面白くない。
先にも書いたような、信長は幼い頃から粗暴で奇妙な振る舞いばかりしていた、とか、野口英世は金銭にルーズだった、とか、殆どの人が知っているようなものばかりだからだ。

発達障害に関しての本としても、偉人についての蘊蓄を綴った書としても、どちらにしても評価できない。

発達障害者は、興味を持ったことであれば常人を上回る集中力を発揮するなど
場合によっては有利となる特性があることは前々から知られており
作者独自の視点とは言えない。
障害に正の部分があることは発達障害について書かれた本であれば大抵書いてある。
歴史上の人物が発達障害者であったかどうかは今となっては調べようが無いが、
学術書ではない一般書籍ならこの程度の推論は許されると思う。
偉人達の意外な一面を解説してる部分は楽しく読めた。
激しく賞賛や批判をする部分はあまりなく、無難にまとめられた本。

たしかに、そうかもしれない。
でも、歴史上の人物に対しての
「筆者は推測する」から、
「日本社会に必要な発想の転換」まで、
つなげてしまってよいものか…。
