中国経済の分析本であるが、その裏に実はインテリジェントの世界で死命を制する情報リテラシー（情報を読み解く能力）の重要性を喚起するという意図が込められている。

日本のマスメディアは、中国共産党政府発表の経済指標を鵜呑みにして流しているが、それは確信犯であるか、愚者であろうか。という問いかけである。

そこで、合理的説明が出来ない事例（つまり嘘）が次々に例示される。そして、中国の経済問題は、日本のマスメディアの問題と重なる部分があるという著者の見解に同意する（外の向かっては改革を叫び、内では記者クラブという談合組織を死守するのが一例である。元首相の世襲と同根であり要するに欺瞞である。ニセモノは本物より本物らしく振舞うので始末が悪い）

情報リテラシーの格好の題材であるポジショントークの一例。
金融機関が「ある国」の経済を絶賛する時は、その国に投資したいときではなく「投資を引き揚げたい」ときである。
もう一つ、「証券化商品」についての説明。
あり余るマネーという前提の下に生み出されたもので、それが「投資適確」という「格付会社」を必要とした。そして、幕が閉じ「コモデティ」、そして今「中国」と続いている。

他にも興味深い明解な解析が多数。

この作者の本は久しぶりに読むが、相変わらず情報ソースが明確なのが凄い。
特に中国の失業率のカラクリには驚いた。結局、中国共産党も自分の国の
失業率を把握していないということなのだろうか。

従来から、中国の経済指標は怪しいのではないか？と言われていたが、
雇用統計、ＧＤＰ成長率、等おかしな統計を具体的に指摘するとともに
それを日本のメディアが疑いもせずそのまま伝え、投資等に悪い影響が
及んでいることが述べられている。また、数字を作るための上意下達の
政策自体も変であることがよくわかる。
