　これはとてもよくできた日本の神々への案内書だ。類書はいろいろあるが、この値段でこの内容ということで、決定版といってもよいのではないか。各神様の別称、神格、神徳、神社ガイドがきちんと述べられているのも便利だ。お稲荷さんから天照大神をへて役行者や安倍晴明まで、日本文化を根底から理解しようと思ったら、神々についての知識は必須である。たとえば、八幡神が応神天皇だという知識があったほうが、わが国の歴史を理解するときでも面白みが増すだろう。もう少し詳しく教えてほしいというところもあるが、ハンディでこれだけの情報量があれば十分である。

２、３ページにひとつの神様が取り上げられており、日本の神様がこれ一冊にほとんど網羅されている。
ご利益、謂れ・因縁・故事来歴も書かれており、研究者などによって説は色々あるのだろうが、
史実を基にしながら、手堅く纏まっていると思う。

神様関係の本は色々見たが、この本が最も便利であり、網羅的。
「大事典」系なら、これより詳しいものもあるが、それ以外ではこの本が一番だろう。
非常にオススメ。

索引として利用するのに最適。
日本の神様をこれだけ上手くまとめた本はあまりない。
なんと言っても、調べ易い。

ただ、表紙カバーのイラストが漫画チックなのでとても残念だ。
むしろ威厳のある表紙のほうが、購買意欲をそそると思う。
内容とは関係ないので、☆は５つとしたが、安っぽい表紙は改訂のときに変えるべきだ。
