教育関係者です。生徒によく言われる台詞とタイトルが重なったので購入しました。確かに、この本には「自由ってなに？」「どうして親の言うことを聞かなきゃいけないの？」などきちんと答えにくい質問に対応できるようなことが書かれていました。しかし、それ以上に参考になり「なるほど」と思ったのが第5章でした。「女の子が勉強する意味」という章のなかに「女性は母にも兵隊にもなれる」という項目があり、ここを読むと今、話題になっている「負け犬」とよばれる女性がどうして増えていて、先進国で少子化が進んでいるのか、その謎解きが解説されていてすごく面白かったです。読者対象はちがうかも知れませんが、自分は負け犬かも…と思う人にもお勧めの一冊ですよ。

子供が必ず口にするこの疑問。「恋愛科学」で有名な藤田氏が、遺伝学、生物学的な見地から非常に説得力のあるお話を展開します。

人間の生きる意味＝「子孫繁栄」という図式には嫌悪感を憶える人もいるとは思いますが、アリやネズミなど他の生物の例を引きながら非常に説得力のあるお話を展開していますので、「なるほど」と納得することでしょう。

勉強はなぜ必要か？単純化していうと「男の子は、美人の奥さんをもらってより優れた子孫を残すため」「女の子は、強い男を得るか、自ら強くなり若くてかっこよい男を捕まえて質のよい遺伝子を子孫に残すか、という選択肢を得るため」ということですが、思春期に僕がこのような説明を受けていれば、がぜん勉強に対してやる気が湧いたことでしょう。

また、この本は女性の晩婚化や少子化が起こる理由にも明快な解答を与えてくれます。ちなみに今まで読んだどの本よりも説得力がありました。「負け犬」＝「日本を守る戦士」だったのですね。ありがたや。

教育論でありながら、男女関係や社会問題の解決にまで踏み込んだ本書。子供がいない僕でも楽しめました。また、子供ができたら絶対にこれは教えようと思います。

勉強（学習）しないでいることがどれほど恐ろしいことかということが切実に書かれていました。現代は武器を持たずとも知力で鍛えた経済力を持ってすれば何万人という人間を殺すことができるという「世界経済戦争」の時代であることや、その戦争の被害を被っているのが開発途上国であることなど「生き残るために知力が使われている事実」を通して人間社会の厳しさを知らされました。子供に絶対に読ませたい本の一つです。中学生には理解できる内容なので私の子供が思春期になれば必ず読ませます。下手な勉強法の本を読ませるよりもずっと危機感を感じて自主的に勉強してくれる、そんな力を秘めた本です。
