＜よい点＞
・内容がためになる
　　他人の意見はもちろん、自分の意見を評価するのにも使えるので、
　　ネガティブ思考を直すのに役立ちそう。
・薄いし、翻訳書にしては読みやすい
　　他にも類似の翻訳書を買ったけど難しすぎて挫折した。
　　体系を意識して書かれてるので、理解しやすい。
・練習問題が多い

＜悪い点＞
・内容の重複が多い
　　話がノッキングを起こしてるところが、多々見受けられる。
　　削っていけば半分に圧縮できそう。

不思議な本である。まず著者の略歴が載っていない（訳者は載っているのに）。もしかしてどこかに載っているのかもしれないが、通常ありそうなところにはない。

また、本当に大事なことは「あとがき」に書かれている。つまり「基本姿勢」については、最後にならないと分からない。「あとがき」まで読まなければ、著者が望まないクリティカル・シンキングの使い方をしてしまうだろう。

中身については、ある主張（本書で言う議論）の妥当性を評価するための視点が網羅性高く解説されている。これでもか、というくらいに主張の妥当性を評価するためのポイントがあげられている。ただ、演習は翻訳本の宿命か、今ひとつ。題材も何とでも言える米国社会問題が多く、実践でのリアリティがわきづらいし、解答例や解説も無理やりなものが見られる。

ということで、有益ですが、不思議かつ不親切な面もあるので星四つ。

演習が豊富で説明の呑み込みが悪くても
そのつど著者の伝えたい核心が具体例で確認できる。
類書にはないほど懇切丁寧な内容で中学生以上ならば万人に年齢を問わずお奨め。
あえて付け加えると
著者の経歴・問題の出典が明かされていないことは不可解、
問題の文が短く平易過ぎることが欠点、
もう少し複雑な具体例でこの本の法則を適用し効果を図って見て欲しかった。
