あっほ夫妻の物語は、とても不思議な物語です。

「マチルダ」の両親にもあてはまるかもしれません。
「魔法の指」も同じ着想が見られます。

「アッホ夫婦」をダールの作品で最初に読んで、よくわからなかった人で、お子さんなら最初に読むとよいのは「窓ふき会社」です。

チャーリーとチョコレート工場は、映画は、親子で一緒に見るとよいかもしれません。
心温まる家族愛をテーマにした映画は、原作を読んでみようと思わせるものがありました。

訳者の「灰島かり」さんが、ある本の後書きで書いているように、誤訳かどうかは子供にとってはどうでもよい場合があるような気がします。
大人に人気があるかどうかよりも、子供に人気が出るものが生き残るのだと思います。

我が家では、子供も大人もダールを読んでいます。

お子様に読んでもらって意見を出してもらえるとありがたいかもしれません。

我が家では「マチルダ」が、ダールの最高傑作だという評価です。

この本は、田村隆一訳『いじわる夫婦が消えちゃった!』を改題したものです。当初から、ダールとブレイクのコラボレーションによって発表されたもので、挿絵と文章が一体となったたいへん面白い話になっていますが、肝心要の柳瀬さんの訳がどうにもいまひとつ。田村さんの訳と比較すると、どうも文章が硬くてノリが悪い。田村訳の『いじわる…』のほうが絶対笑えると思います。『いじわる…』はまだ入手可能なので、両方買って読み比べてみるのもよいかと思いますよ。
