最近、たくさんのロマンス小説が出版されていて、当たり外れが多いなか、お勧めできる。
何が違うのか、やはりロマンス小説と言えどもプロットや気持ちの描写がしっかりしていないと、いくら人物が魅力的でもね……。その点この作品はありがちな雑さや、強力な展開がなく、軽妙洒脱でストーリーに入り込める。これといった大掛かりな仕掛けはないけど、楽しい!ヒロインヒーローも魅力的です。

エイリアンがある町で賭けをしている。
という類の記事を書いているヒロイン・ホープは、書いた記事が元でスランプ中。
リフレッシュのため田舎町ゴスペルで半年間過ごすことに。
そこで保安官・ディランと出会う。
ディランには８歳の息子・アダムがいて、
アダムの母親は有名な女優だが、そのことは周囲に隠しているため、
記者であるホープを警戒するも惹かれていきます。
ホープは子供を産めない体であることや、本当はどんな記事を書いているのかを隠し、
ある偶然が重なり、ディランに誤解される。

原題「True Confessions」

話は面白いですが、ロマンスとしては少し薄いような。
ホープと子供のやりとりにほっこり。
田舎の噂好きな人々に微笑んでしまう、温かいストーリーです。
きゅんとする場面はあまりなかったので、☆３つ
