　バイブレーターで、夫を殺害した話やら、ダイアナ妃の衣装を切り売りした男の話、ブラピよりもお菓子の方が、女性の心拍数が上がるデーターなど、ゾッとする事件、お間抜けな事件、トリビア、外国の変わった風習など、読んでいて全部が全部、面白いというわけでもありませんでした。日本からもいくつか有名？になった事件が紹介されています。三浦敬三氏が、９９歳でモンブランを滑走した快挙や、イヌとのコミュニケーションをさせる玩具『バウリンガル』、昆虫の自販機などは、日本人の感覚からすると、別に三面記事にするような話ではないと思いますが、外国人には、そうは見えないのでしょう。皮肉やフランス語の駄洒落に満ちた文章は、フランス人らしいエスプリが感じられ、対象となる記事内容からは彼らにとっては奇妙だと思われる文化や事柄が読み取ることが出来て、興味深いものがありました。また、図説といっても、それぞれの記事とは、直接関連しない劇画調のイラストが添えられているだけで、雰囲気はあっても、作者の今までの類書に見られるような強烈なインパクトはありません。

　結論からいけば、ただのガラクタなのだが、こと疑似科学史や与太話史という観点から考えるには、背骨を通すような意味で必要な情報が散らばっている。特に三面記事の歴史や、当時の三面記事と大衆の関係など、十分に学術的な研究の対象になっている部分などは無価値ではない。
　また、当然だが実際の三面記事がとんでもない量載っているわけだが、つい「あ、これテレポートアニマル事例にできるな」とか、いろいろ捏造与太話のネタ元として使えそうな話が多く、ついよからぬことを考えてしまい、そしてそのことがとても楽しいという事態が訪れる。
さらにはここ数年の記事も多く、新しい都市伝説などの宝庫にもなっている。

　ヨタ話の歴史について大衆文化の面からも知識を補強したいという、果てしなく少ない読者にのみ強くお勧めしたい一冊である。
　ただし、著者が著者だけに、スーパー・ジャーナル＝東スポ系のバカ度で勝負！なものよりは、意義深い部分が多いことは述べておきたい。

実際の記事紹介以外は結構まじめ。
