　2000年に小学館から出た単行本の文庫化。
　著者は変な形の生き物が好きらしい。ウミウシとかヒトデとかクラゲとか。あの、どこが頭でどこが足かも分からないような、突拍子もない形がたまらないのだという。
　そして、日本国内はもとより、東南アジア各地の海へ、シュノーケリングに出かけていくのである。バリカサグ島、アポ島、マナド、ピーピー島、柏島などを訪れ、浅瀬でのんびり泳ぎながら、生き物の観察をする。実に楽しそうだ。
　著者に独特の、笑いをとることに命をかけているような文章も良い。関西人に独特の、自分自身をネタにした捨て身の芸には爆笑させられた。
　間違っても、真面目なウミウシの本ではないので、ご注意。

私自身もダイビングよりスノーケリング派ですが、スノーケリングの本ってなかなかないんですよね！
しかもスノーケリングについてのお笑い本ですから、特異なジャンルの本と言えましょう…
本屋では自然科学コーナーにあったり旅コーナーにあったり、どこにあるのか探すのは難しいので、この本に出会ったあなた、ここで逃したらなかなか見つかりませんよ！買いですよ！

めんどくさがりな宮田珠己の旅行記、＜海＞編。
旅の目的は、シュノーケリングで浅瀬の変なカタチの生きものを見ること。
この「変なカタチの生きもの」の基準はとてもキビしい。
地上の動物はほとんど×。
「前に顔があって後ろに尻尾がある」のは、普通でつまらないのだ。
魚もイマイチらしい。
大喜びで紹介されているのは、マンジュウヒトデ、アメフラシ、モモイロサルパなどなど。
出会った生きもののカタチをシンプルなイラストで紹介。いちおう索引もあり。
行く先々で珊瑚が死んでいて、地球温暖化についてちょっと心配になってしまいます。

旅行記といっても、面白さのポイントがちょっとズレていて、アウトドアに興味ない人が読んでも楽しいです。
目的地の選択、なんでダイビングやイヤなのか、どれだけ変な生きものが好きか、などなど
宮田珠己の価値観や屁理屈や独特な語りぶりが笑えます。
ともて良い息抜きになるので、私は平日の夜にちびちび読みました。
ついでに、なぜか本文が濃い青字で、ちょっと夏っぽいです。
さらに蛇足ですが、この本、白水社の「ｕブックス」なんですね・・・ちょっと意外。
最初の刊行は、2000年に小学館から。
