　なんというか、ひとつひとつの文章がいちいち胸にくるのだ。困ってしまうくらいに。

　ひとつひとつの文章がさらに幾つもの道につながっていて読んでいるこちら側の思考を際限なくひろがらせてゆく。ストーリーを追っていながら、自分の内面も追っていける、そういう感じ。自分のうちにだけひそめていたはずの声、言葉を、物語内にたびたび見出してしまう驚き。

　ストーリーに明確な起承転結があるわけではない。にもかかわらず引き込まれてしまうのは、上記のような言葉の魔力（？）と登場人物の魅力（船乗りジョーダン。巨体の犬女(ドッグウーマン)。幻の女フォーチュナータ。踊る12人の王女。・・・・）のせいだと思う。ほんとまいった。

この人の小説は
クライマックスの激しい盛り上がりが
全体の７割ぐらい、
普通の物語よりも早く訪れます。
その後、長く静かで美しい余韻が続くのですが
それが他では味わえない印象を
強く残します。

小説が始まる前に、ホピ族の言語について触れています。
ホピの言語には、時間軸が無い…、というようなことが。過去も現在も未来も同じ一つの時である…読み終えたとき、それを実感します。

普通、あらすじやレビューで書きすぎているものを読んでしまうと、ネタバレだ…と悲しくなるものですが、この小説には関係ないぞと感じました。ミルフィーユのような小説なのです。しかも間に挟まっているクリームは一層ごとに違う味。何がバレようと、どんな一口になるのかはバレようが無いので関係ないのです。

そんなに長い小説ではありませんが、とにかく刺激的です。幻想的でロマンティックで残酷で汚くてリアリスティック。何よりとても美しい。
タイトルで引きそうでしたが読んで良かったと思っています。
