まず、驚いたのが『五月革命』ですね。恥ずかしながら、１９６８年にフランスでこんなに混乱を極めた革命があったなんてまったく知りませんでした。その事実を知っただけでもめっけもん。

で、内容的には退廃とエロスに彩られた幕間劇みたいな感じで、腐臭を放ちながらも美しい。バタイユの「眼球譚」をもっとノーマルにして現代におきかえたみたいな感じ？コクトーの「恐るべき子供たち」がモチーフとして使われているみたいですが、こちらは未読なのでなんとも言えません。未成年だけの管理者のいないユートピア。夢想の世界で繰り広げられる甘美なゲーム。おっと、そうなるとマキューアン「セメント・ガーデン」ともダブってくるかな？近親相姦もしかりだし。でも、こちらは現実離れした美しさがちらついて、ストレートにそういった即物的なものが伝わってこないから、わりとあっさりした感じですよ。手の届かない美しさに逆にほのかな憧れを感じます。

五月革命とシネマテーク館長アンリ・ラングロワ解任事件との関係とか、トリュフォー『夜霧の恋人たち』がラングロワと彼を支持したシネフィルたちへのオマージュだったとか、恥ずかしながらこの本ではじめて知った。主人公の姉弟＋アメリカ人留学生のあんにゅいな鞘当てゲーム（？）よりも、ちらちら垣間見えるそうした背景のほうが面白かった。

「革命」が実ってシネマテークが再開されたとき、初回上映が新作『夜霧の〜』で、冒頭のシネマテークのシーンを観た観客は大喝采したそうだ。トリュフォーの映画は正直苦手なんだけど、そのときのシネマテークで観てたら何か違ってたかな。

「兄妹＋留学生（男）の三角関係を五月革命下のパリを舞台に描いた物語」と書くと安っぽい感じがしますが、中身はもう少し凝っています。
10代後半の3人が保護者のいない閉鎖された家の中で関係を築き、やがてそれが社会との接触を余儀なくされて壊れいくさまを美しく描いています。
箱庭的な理想郷が、生活や社会といった現実から決して逃れられないことを物がっているという読み方も出来ると思います。
ただ同じ作者の「閉じた本」や「作者の死」のような凝ったつくりを想定すると、シンプルな語りに肩透かしを食うかもしれません。
