禅の知識も書の知識もない私にも解り易く、題名通り穏やかな気持ちにさせてくれる本でした。
見開き２頁で一つの禅語の書とその解説が書かれており、頁をめくる度に考えさせられたり、慰められたり、ホッとしたり。
活字だけでなく書を見ると視覚的になぜか落ち着きます。　

また解説は身近な出来事を例に出したりして、回りくどくなく短い文章でやさしく語りかけるように禅語を説いているので、とても素直に心に入ってきます。
一日の始まりや終わりに数ページめくりたい、一度読み終わってもいつも側において何かあったときに読み直したい、そんな本です。

とかく難しい言葉が並びがちな『禅』や『仏さま』の教え。
この本は本当に分かり易く、優しく、美しいものでした。
物質的に恵まれている時代なのに、なぜかココロを病む人が多いこのご時世。私も含め、世の中には「あーなりたい、こうなりたい。」と遠くばかりを見つめている人がいかに多いことか。

この本は「日常生活の中にある小さくて些細で当たり前のように存在するものの中に、とても大きな意味や喜びが詰まっているんだよ。」ということを教えてくれました。この本に出会えて、単調に流れ行く日々の生活それ自体がとてもいとおしく感じられました。一語一語に書かれる美しい「書の作品」と「教え」。

多くを望まなくても、日本人であること、今ある生活、あるがままの自分、それだけで本当は充分に素晴らしいことなのかもしれません。

茶道を学んでいる人は、床の間の掛け軸でしばしば禅語を目にします。
ところが、禅語を学ぼうと思って茶道関係の出版社から出ている「茶
席の禅語」なんて名前の本を手にとっても、いやに小難しく「悟りの
境地では客も亭主も無であり云々・・。」もう、なんのこっちゃ。
そんな不満を一瞬で解決してくれるのがこの本です。
禅語って、こんなあたたかい言葉だったんだなあと見方が一変します。
これからは、茶席の掛け軸を見たら「ほっ」とくつろいでお茶をいただ
けるかな。
