上・中・下　　3巻完結しています。中国書道史を、通して解説した本では、現在最も良い本だと思います。図書館、大学などに備えるべき名著だといえましょう。
中国語訳がでてもよいと思うくらいです。

この下巻では、北宋から現代までを、あつかっています。どちらかというと古代中世の書が得意なようにみえる著者としては、やややりにくいところでしょうが、簡潔に整理されています。
ちょっと特色があるのが、普通はあまりとりあげない宋、元、明時代の石刻にも目を配っていることです。これは他の本にはない独自の見識だと思いました。

北宋：蔡襄の陶生帖を賛美し、明時代では祝允明を重視しているのはさすがだと思います。戦前には祝允明はずいぶん悪口を言われたものでしたから。
日本にあるのに、普通の本にはあまりでてこない珍品もとりあげられています。呉説の「遊糸書」（南宋）、蘇舜欽「南浦帖」（北宋）、蔡松年「李白仙詩巻跋」（金）などです。

清朝では、一般には軽視しがちな帖派をちゃんと解説しているのも注目しました。
ちょっと不思議なのは、清のトウ石如の作品として超有名な篆書四幅「白氏草堂記」が、とりあげられていなかったのが、気になりました。
